Phillips Brook Estate is situated 18km north of the beautiful seaside city of Albany. The first vines were planted in 1975, with plantings of Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon, making it one of the earliest vineyards in the Great Southern wine region. Formerly known as Redmond vineyard, it was the first commercial vineyard in the Albany sub region and the most southerly in the state. The wines produced in the early 80's received many accolades within the fledgling WA wine industry and received numerous medals and trophies in wine shows throughout Australia. The vineyard had a chequered history after the original owners sold it in 1988, and when the current owners purchased it in 2001, rejuvenated the old vines back to peak condition, and planted a further 19 acres of vines to expand the Phillips Brook range. James Halliday awarded Phillips Brook five stars in his 2005 wine companion and it was named the best winery in the Albany sub region.
Phillips Brook's growing reputation for quality wine has allowed the current owners to sell most of their own small production through their cellar door and gallery. Just one km off the Albany Highway, the situation of Phillips Brook Estate takes full advantage of the areas growing reputation as a wine / tourism destination.
